Rhythms of Life

As each moment passes, each day, each week…. the weeks turn into months and the months into another year. I realize that life keeps marching on, some days pass quickly and others I just want to push fast forward, the next day I am looking for the pause button but through it all life keeps moving. Each day has a rhythm of its own, sometimes fast, sometimes slow but those rhythms flow together to make the song my life is playing.

I realize I want to make the most of these days, the kids are growing quickly and yet seem to last forever in that stage in which we are struggling. There are days when I wish for a circle of moms to give evening awards….. “good job for you, you made 3 meals today;, “mom of the day for realizing your child’s snow boots are 3 sizes too small”; “wife of the moment, you were actually ready for bed the same time he was”; “teacher of the week, you got 2 pages of math finished”; “lady of the day, you got out of bed and made it through the day”…… that circle of friends that realizes and appreciates what an effort something was and rejoices with you in the large and small victories of the day. A circle of friends to encourage and spur on to another day, another step toward living with intention, cherishing each moment, loving always and speaking with grace and kindness.

I love to read and I have read many encouraging books. In fact, its a rare moment I am not in the middle of at least one “mama, encouraging, wife, parent” style book….. {currently I am reading Life Management for Busy Women by Elizabeth George and Rhythms of Rest by Shelly Miller and The Life Giving Home by Sally Clarkson} But there are a couple books I will re-read each year. Pursue the Intentional Life by Jean Fleming is one of them. It’s one I like to read this time of year as we begin another calendar year and remind myself of the need to live with intention, regardless of the season of life I am in. Jean Fleming is an author I have read many times over the last 12 years, her “A Mother’s Heart” book being one of the first books on mothering I ever read and another one I have read numerous times.

To start out this year, I have decided I’d like to read through this book with some of you. Perhaps its a book that sounds interesting to you. Maybe you just need some accountability to be building God’s Word and good truths into your life, maybe you need a circle around you to encourage you on a daily basis….. this is for you. Because it is the easiest format for many people, I have created a small group, a private forum on Facebook for this group. I have quite a variety of ideas of what we could do in this group and while I am still meshing some things together in my brain, this is something I have been mulling over for awhile already, I decided I just need to start somewhere and see what may come together.

My plan is to post daily, Monday through Friday, a short something on each chapter in the book. Conveniently there are 31 chapters, however, in order to give some room to catch up and with the weekends, we will take a little longer to go through the book. I have a Bible reading to go with each chapter with the intention of being in the Word on a daily basis as well as gleaning truth and encouragement from the words of this book, Pursue the Intentional Life. My plan right now is to start Monday, January 9th.  In addition, I hope to use this space as a place for us to encourage each other, get ideas for struggles in our daily life, bring some joy to each day and accountability to build habits into our lives. I hope to read through some other good books through the year, as well as e a place for habit building in the areas of menu planning, exercise or other areas the habits need built up in.

If you are interested in joining us, go HERE and request to join the group. You can also email me at jen@claffs.com for more information. And if you would like to join in and aren’t on Facebook often, you can download an app for Facebook that is just for groups, you do need a Facebook account but then you can access just our group from this app and not the rest of Facebook if that is something that works better for you.  Access Google Play store HERE or the iTunes store HERE, it’s a free app on both!

You will need to purchase this book that we will be reading through, but trust me, it is well worth the money and is a wonderful read! Click here for the best Amazon price currently, plus it’s my affiliate link, so I get a little tiny kickback though your price won’t change!  {Oh and look, look….. it’s available in an audio format too if this is an easier way for you to read!}  Once you are in the group, I will make sure you have the daily Bible reading plan that you can download or print and of course, there will be the daily posted encouragement and thoughts for each day.

I’ll be using the #rhythmsoflife and #rhythmsoflifemama hashtags in other social media venues and blog posts, if you would like to use as well you may!

So…. who’s in? 😉

The Alexapure Filter {A long-over due review & incredible sale}

alexapureOH MY! I just saw this sale come across my email and I almost wished I hadn’t bought my Alexapure a few months back!

I absolutely love my Alexapure filter, after months (maybe years!) of running to the grocery store to refill water jugs or replacing old jugs with new water jugs, we received one for our anniversary – best.gift.ever 😉 I truly do not miss visiting frequently with the ladies at the grocery store (who kindly asked ‘no water today’ for weeks after!) – I end up grocery shopping often enough just to keep food in the house 😉
Anyhow – our tap water is technically ok to drink, it’s on a city water system. However, it tastes awful. So, getting a filter has been on my wish list for years.
The Alexapure sits on our counter, the kids water cups nearby and I fill it up around twice a day. Usually, after cleaning up the kitchen in the evening, I make sure I empty out the reservoir filling the coffee pot, water pitcher or water bottles and then fill up the upper reservoir to filter. Typically, it take a 2-3 hours for the upper to completely filter down into the lower reservoir. Then sometime during the day, depending on our water usage, I will top off the upper reservoir and let it filter through. The upper and lower reservoirs hold approximately 2.5 gallons of water each which works out fine, even for our large family. I have filled several gallon jugs I leave in the pantry for the occasional time when I need a lot of water at one time (filling a soup pot, replacing my kombucha water or making a large pot of rice or pasta…..) Then that evening or next morning, I will refill my jug and put back away without draining the entire drinking water supply just before dinner 😉

The water filtered out of the Alexapure tastes wonderful, clean and pure. Even my rather particular and taste sensitive husband agrees it is wonderful. And after several months of using it, I cannot hardly stand the taste of our tap water anymore. Plus, knowing that our main beverage around here is water, I know I am supporting my kids bodies well using good water and not water that may have been compromised in some sort.

Another added benefit to this filter is its portability. Since it doesn’t permanently install, we can easily take it with us for overnight camping trips, long road trips or when we move. If we were ever faced with a natural disaster such as a wildfire or weather concern and we needed to leave, I could easily put the filter in the car and fill it up with water from anywhere and have fresh and safe water for my family to drink.

So seriously, if you have been contemplating a water filter for your family….. THIS IS THE WEEK TO DO IT!!!!!
Now thru November 18 – any Alexapure filter will come with an additional filter – an $97 value FOR FREE! The filter system already comes with one, so this will give you two…. having 2 in the reservoir will speed up the filter time as well as extend the life of both filters (typical lifespan of a filter is 5000 gallons)

thoughts for today

Need some encouragement to make it through the rest of the week? I have been thoroughly enjoying the book,  “Teaching from Rest” by Sarah Mackenzie. It has given me some great ‘food for thought’ and practical ideas on making the most of my days.

TFR-do less 1

“What you must do, however, is find a way to relish this ordinary Wednesday. Do whatever you need to do to behold the face of God in your children and to delight in them.
There is always more to do. There are always more subjects to cover, more lessons to get to. You can work to the point of exhaustion and still feel lacking. Or you can take this day, today, this gift of the present, and you can live it. You can seek first the Kingdom of God here on earth and by doing so, model the best kind of living to your kids.” (SM, TFR pg 60)

In light of the above thoughts, how can you make today a good day? Or better yet, go do it and come back and tell us how your day went

Moringa Mama

It’s all around us – everywhere we look – your body needs this or that, your struggle with this would be helped with that, the pain you have there is relieved by this, have more energy, sleep better, increase your stamina, loose the pounds, gain time today, relieve your stress, laugh often, play hard, sleep when baby sleeps, clean the house effectively, enjoy the mess, conquer the laundry and master the meals….. cherish the moments…. that’s what we really want, right?

We want to be able to BE THERE, to be able to function and smile and enjoy those little smiles and sticky hands. To sit on floor and play, to ride bikes, take a hike or just jump in the lake. We want to cherish the moments we have been given today.

Today is a gift – yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come – it’s what we do today that matters.

This moment
This moment

As a mama to little ones, homeschooling ones, many years of (what seemed like constant!) pregnancy and nursing under my belt – and the fluff and padding still under that belt 😉 – I desire to keep my body in the best shape I can. Oh, I don’t obsess over it; I’m too busy reading books and making the next meal and keeping the toddlers playing nice together to do that. But I do want to increase my energy, lose a few pounds, be able to walk or run or hike in the years to come. I want to give my body good, real and nourishing foods in order to stay healthy and so it heals from the fatigue and drain of multiple pregnancies. I have so appreciated the ministry and education I have received from Fit2B, letting me know that I am not broken and my body can heal and how to do that and how to strengthen my core to be able to support well the rest of my body.

As I look at information and read about what the body needs to be at it’s optimum function, I often come away discouraged. It’s hard to know if I need more of this vitamin or this mineral or that nutrient or this supplement.  Eating real and unprocessed food is good. An excellent plan and one that I follow the best I can, but it’s also discouraging as you read study after study and articles all over that show that food is just not the same any more, the nutrients we need are getting hard to get even in real and unprocessed foods.

Nutritional deficiency in our food supply in the United States has become an increasing problem over the last few decades. This is a problem for our health and vitality! A study of changes in food composition for 13 nutrients in 43 garden crops from 1950 to 1999 found the following:
A 38% decline in riboflavin A 20% decline in vitamin C A 16% decline in calcium A 15% decline in iron A 9% decline in phosphorus A 6% decline in protein (source)

Gram for gram, Moringa has more vitamins and nutrients that any other plant in the world.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF MORINGA – Delivers anti-inflammatory support; Promotes healthy digestion; Heightens mental clarity; Increases energy; Provides natural anti-aging benefits; Nourishes body’s immune system; Maintains blood glucose levels; Promotes healthy circulation. (source)

I have started taking the Moringa from Zija. It’s a powdered little powerhouse packet of moringa mix that I add to water and drink. I try to take it first thing in the morning since it can have a good metabolic effect that will aid in weight loss by getting it into your system first thing in the morning. But if I forget, I typically will take mid morning/before lunch. I find the drink mix fairly palatable and don’t mind drinking down my 20 ounce water bottle full of it, but you can certainly mix in less water and get it down quicker too.

There are 3 options for the primary moringa supplement – the Super Mix, the Smart Mix and the XM + – it is suggested that you start with the Super Mix – this has the highest moringa content of the 3. The Smart Mix has a slightly lower moringa content but has an added prebiotic in the mix, an excellent combination, but depending on your existing gut issues, it can occasionally cause a little upset tummy till your body gets more balanced. The XM+ adds some oomph to the moringa by adding in a natural caffeine to give yourself a little boost. I have personally taken all 3 and ideally would like to alternate between the Smart and Super Mix on a regular basis with having a little of the XM+ on hand to use on days when I know the added energy will be needed!

As I have learned more about the Moringa, I have found it to be quite fascinating and truly a ‘super food’. I have found other sources of it as well, but the more I learn about Zija as a company and their superior processing of the entire moringa tree and utilizing it in the best form possible, I am becoming more and more convinced this is a excellent source for a true real food multi-vitamin that will benefit your body well.

I have found over the last couple months, I seem to have a more steady and reliable level of stamina….I wouldn’t say I am bursting with energy all day, but my energy level day to day and week to week are more stable. I am also craving less coffee in the morning….something that is encouraging since I know too much coffee isn’t great for adrenal issues (which I know I am struggling with), so being satisfied in the morning with one cup and perhaps a bit of a second one is wonderful after needing 2-3 cups in the morning and often coming back for more thru the day. I also know that my adrenal issues are not something that have developed ‘overnight’ and the years of drain and stress on them will take some time to resolve. This is true of overall health as well, it isn’t built in 2 weeks or a month of clean eating or a new supplement. It’s built over time as you feed your body well, treat your body well and exercise it in the best way for your body as well as giving it the nutrients it needs to build, rebuild and strengthen your body, both internally and externally.

the moringa plant
SO, have I piqued your interest in this whole Moringa plant? Watch the video below for some more information, it’s about 17 minutes and has some excellent information.

Plus, I am planning on sharing regularly about Moringa and it’s benefits – you can follow me on Facebook or sign up for emailed versions of my posts via the box over in the side column!

Another reason I want to share Zija with you goes beyond the Moringa products, they also have the Ripstick products, great for before/during/after workouts as well as a drink for anytime (similar to other sports drinks but without all the nasty additives, chemicals and colors!) and a complete weight management system as well. Zija also has an emerging and growing essential oil line called Ameo as well. The more I am learning about the Ameo oils I am thrilled with their process, purity and potential. If you enjoy essential oils, this is a wonderful line to look at and I will share more about it in the future as well – it needs it own post!

Finally, I want to quickly share my dreams for the business and growing side of the Zija products. I am a distributor for the full line of products, you can purchase through me with ‘no strings attached’, ordering just a one time order or a monthly auto ship with the ability to cancel or change at anytime. You can also purchase starter kits with a variety of products to get yourself started with products and the potential for your own business.

Ken Brailsford, founder of Zija
Ken Brailsford, founder of Zija

As I was introduced to Zija, I saw not only a great product – one that would nourish and support my body and my family’s health as well, but I also saw potential for business growth. As you might know, my husband is self employed in the construction/contractor field and has established himself well with a firm foundation of excellence and quality work. But with the ups and downs of any field, the construction field is a challenging one. We often discuss ways we can expand our business, grow our dreams and be able to establish a heritage and business legacy to pass on to our children. Even as I type this, my older boys are helping their dad today at work, cleaning and picking up and coming along side him and learning the value of work. As a family, we have big dreams. We would love to own a little piece of land and build our home on it. Together and with those around us, we desire to establish a home and haven for our family and friends. A place to call our own to serve our God, our family, our community – a place we can pass on to our children and their children. To raise up a generation of established, well rounded educationally, strong men and women. Right now, I know my primary field of work is my home and children, being the wife my husband needs, the mother and teacher my children need, caring and tending to the home as a whole. But I also desire to grow our family business, to be able to possibly bring in a some additional income to start building our dreams and to possibly in some way relieve some of that constant financial pressure so many of us struggle with on a regular basis.

My prayer and desire is not some ‘get rich quick scheme’, it’s a desire to offer a product and source for good nutrition and health; To pass the opportunity on to anyone that might be interested and to help support my family in the process. I welcome your input, your feedback, your questions and your support. Zija has a wonderful team to come along side and work with and I would love to share the vision with you.

As I wrap up this post I would encourage you to watch the video below (it’s 11 minutes!) and learn more about Zija. I would love to answer any questions you may have and when you are ready, I can help you get this product on its way to you. I encourage you to click through the many links I have in the post and write down any of your questions, concerns or thoughts about the product and let’s set up a time to talk either via email (jen@claffs.com) or phone and if I don’t have the answer I know people that do and we can connect with them together!

{And if you received this post as information on Zija from a friend of yours that is also a Zija distributor, please connect with them for more information and ordering…. not that I wouldn’t love to help you as well, but I do want to respect the referral process as we all work together on sharing and educating our friends on this information!}
